Family I grew up on a farm southwest of Bad Axe with my parents (Jim & Ethel Shaw) and 3 older brothers (Mike, Scott, & Steve). Now I live just south of Ubly with my husband (Scott), dog (Piper), and cat (Misty). My 2 grown sons (Jonathan & Nicholas) live in Bad Axe now. I have lots of nieces and nephews, including some great-nieces and great-nephews.
School I attended Bad Axe Schools from kindergarten until graduating in 1988. Then I went to Central Michigan University to earn my Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1992. I completed my Masters in the Art of Teaching Degree through Marysgrove College in 2004. Since I enjoy learning new things, I often watch webinars or attend professional development throughout the year.
Teaching I began teaching at Ubly Community Schools in 1993. I taught 1st grade for 15 years, including one year of a 1st/2nd grade split. Next, I moved up to 5th grade for a few years. One year I taught reading and social studies. The next two years I taught reading and English. The following year, I had self-contained in the mornings with reading, math, and some English. The afternoons I taught 7th & 8th grade English & Math Essentials along with an hour of 7th grade Pre-Algebra. After that, I taught 6th grade math and spelling. Now I am in my ninth year of 2nd grade. Never a dull moment!
Hobbies My favorite thing to do is spend time with my boys and watch them play hockey. Both Jonathan & Nicholas are working with their dad for Wright Choice Electric and taking classes to be electricians. I also enjoy taking pictures. You will rarely find me without a camera close by. I look forward to spending some time to scrapbook the pictures I've taken.
